New Delhi, Jan 1: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa decision to introduce harsher laws to deal with perpetrators of crimes against women has been welcomed by the National Commission for Women (NCW).
NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma described it as a very good decision to amend the Goondas Act.
She felt that if all measures are implemented, there will certainly be a decrease in crimes against women.
Jayalalithaa had earlier in the day said her government would request the Centre to make the necessary changes in the law to provide death penalty and chemical castration to those involved in such crimes.
The NCW has also sent its recommendations to the government three months ago.
Sharma, however, said it was more important to implement the laws than enacting them. (ANI)
