Armstrong to face criminal investigation for obstruction , witness tampering and intimidation

London, Feb 7: Disgraced US cyclist Lance Armstrong is reportedly facing criminal proceedings by United States federal authorities, after a previous two-year investigation was closed with no charges brought against him.

According to the report, Armstrong is now being investigated for obstruction, witness tampering and intimidating associates, by threatening to take legal action against them, to conceal his doping, the Telegraph reports.

The evidence gathered during United States Anti-Doping Agency’s report on Armstrong’s cheating which led to his confession could be used in the new federal inquiry, the report added.

Armstrong is also facing a jail sentence, provided the federal authorities decide to prosecute.

The previous federal investigation looked at Armstrong’s then-alleged drug-taking and potential fraud.

This comes as Armstrong failed to meet a deadline for providing detailed evidence of his doping and the people who aided it to the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

He has, however, indicated that he would be willing to give further evidence of his drug activities under oath to a truth and reconciliation commission run by the World Anti-Doping Agency instead. (ANI)
