Army helps J&K remote area villagers enlist

Jammu, Feb 20: Training by the army to the youths of remote and mountainous areas of Reasi in Jammu and Kashmir has helped five of them enlist in the force, an official said Wednesday.

“To help unemployed youths and bring them into the mainstream, the army has been imparting pre-recruitment training in the remote area of Gulabgarh (about 200 km north of Jammu) of Reasi district,” a defence spokesman said here.

He said that a 15-day training camp was organised to train the youths of the area. “The drive was launched to train and guide eligible and aspiring youths of the area for recruitment into the armed forces,” he added.

Twenty young men were shortlisted for training for the selection procedure, which included physical conditioning and a written examination.

Of the 20 candidates, nine qualified in the physical test during the Army Recruitment Rally in December. Seven candidates appeared for the written test and five cleared the exam. “These five have finally been selected for recruitment in the army,” the spokesperson said.
