Washington, Feb 7: Comedian Chris Rock has called President Barack Obama and First Lady ‘mom and dad of the country’, as he pressed for the Democrat’s proposed gun control reforms at an event on Capitol Hill.
At a press conference, Rock said that “the President and the First Lady are kind of like the mom and the dad of the country.”
He added that “and when your dad says something, you listen. And when you don’t, it usually bites you in the ass later on. So I’m here to support the president.”
According to the New York Daily News, Rock, who also called the president ‘our boss’, kept his remarks short, noting that the other advocates at the event were better spokespeople for the issue.
Rock was joined on the Hill by actors Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Anna Deavere Smith, and singer Tony Bennett.
The event was sponsored by Mayor Bloomberg’s advocacy group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
Obama is pressing for universal background checks on firearms, and has also proposed an assault weapons ban and limits on ammunition magazines, it added. (ANI)
