Fish and chips ‘more British’ than Queen Elizabeth

London, Feb 23: One in five people in the UK believe that fish and chips are “more British” than the Queen.

Fish and chips easily beat football and beans on toast among the things people find hard to do without they are vacationing abroad, the Daily Express reported.

Football could garner only eight percent of the votes, while beans on toast was missed by just two percent of people.

The study was commissioned by the Potato Council to mark Chip Week that ends on Sunday.

Eight in 10 people confessed that fish and chips are an important part of their national culture and identity.

The poll asked 1,500 people about their attitude to British foods, people and activities.

Participants were also eager to recommend fish and chips to tourists visiting the UK, with two thirds picking the food compared with just one in 10 who said they would recommend a Cornish pasty.

Haggis was recommended by just four percent of participants, while two percent said that they will recommend chicken tikka masala to tourists as a typical British dish. (ANI)
