New Delhi, Feb 27: Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran on Wednesday in Rajya Sabha gave details of the various measures and steps taken by the government to ensure safety and security for the women and children.
“The Government had appointed Justice Usha Mehra Commission of enquiry on December 26, 2012, to enquire into various aspects of the incident of rape and brutal assault of a young woman in Delhi on December 16, 2012. The Commission has submitted its report on Feb uary 22, 2013,” said Ramachandran
He further informed the upper house that the commission has given its findings on the coordination between the Delhi Traffic Police and the Transport Department of GNCT of Delhi, on investigation done by the Delhi Police in the incident of gang rape and also made recommendations for preventive action to improve safety and security of women.
“Justice J.S.Verma Committee was constituted to look into the possible amendments of the Criminal laws so as to provide for quicker trial and enhanced punishment for criminals, accused of committing sexual assault of the extreme nature against women and the committee has submitted its report,” he added.
He also stated that an ordinance has already been issued by the government amending various penal provisions for crimes against women. (ANI)
