London, Feb 6: Elizabeth Hurley has joined other celebrities like Evan Rachel Wood and David Williams who have taken to their Twitter.com pages to celebrate after politicians voted to support a bill that would legalise same-sex marriage in Britain.
The landmark decision for gay rights in England and Wales means the bill is taken to the committee stages and for a vote in the House of Lords.
And despite there being more steps to take before gay marriage is allowed, the vote of 400 to 175 is a good enough sign.
The 47-year-old actress, who is engaged to Australian cricketer Shane Warne, thanked all the MPs, who voted in favour of the proposal, the Daily Express reported.
In a post Hurley wrote, “Thank you to the clear majority of MPs who voted in support of Gay Marriage”, while Wood told fans, “UK Parliament has voted for gay marriage. The majority has spoken and the fight for equality continues…”
Little Britain star Walliams declared, “Thank you MPs for voting in support of Gay Marriage. You did the right thing” and singer Geri Halliwell adds, “I’m so proud of Britain, thank you to government for voting on same sex marriage, fantastic and inspirational!”
Actor Stephen Fry declared, “Whoop!!!!!! 400-175!!!! Now that’s a majority!! A great day in the slow but glorious history of British progress and fairness.” (ANI)
