New York, Feb 12: A local newspaper in the US is under fire for allegedly labeling models, who would be performing at a private lingerie fashion show, as “sluts.”
The Carmel Pine Cone, a free publication for affluent Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, sparked outrage by printing the offensive word above a picture of the women on its front page, the New York Daily News reported.
Newspaper bosses said that it was simply reporting the words of a concerned resident who spoke out against the lingerie and tequila show at a council meeting.
But Racey Promotions, the PR firm behind Thursday’s event, want damages – saying the snap was used without permission and the word is defamatory to those appearing in it.
It also said that two of the girls in the picture, aged 17 and 18, did not attend the 50-dollar show at the Vesuvio restaurant – and are now at risk of cyber-bullying.
The furor began when flyers for the private party were picked up by Carolyn Hardy – a resident of the city where Clint Eastwood was mayor from 1986 to 1988.
Jeannette Witten, attorney for Racey Promotions, said the firm was considering filing a lawsuit against the newspaper for publishing the picture without its consent. (ANI)
