London, Feb 24: Oscar Pistorius’ uncle has claimed the Paralympic star wants to meet the family of his former girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, whom he has been charged of shooting to death.
However, Steenkamp’s father has warned Pistorius of suffering the consequences if his version that he accidentally shot dead his daughter proves false.
Pistorius is expected to make contact with the grieving family of Steenkamp, the girlfriend he admits shooting dead at his home, the Guardian reports.
The athlete, who is accused of murder, spent eight nights in a police cell in Pretoria before being released on bail of 74,000 pounds on Friday.
Pistorius was driven to the luxury home of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius, who said the athlete wanted to reach out to the Steenkamp family.
Arnold told a South African channel they don’t want to put the Bladerunner under pressure but while they were in the car, that is what he said, adding the family of Steenkamp is in his mind all the time and he knows his purpose would be to be part of the family in future.
It is not clear whether the Steenkamp family, who cremated their daughter last week, is ready for such a gesture.
The late model’s father, Barry Steenkamp, had told a South Africa’s newspaper that Pistorius would have to live with his conscience if he was lying about how he had killed her, the paper reported. (ANI)
