Union Budget is prudent, productive and progressive: Manish Tewari

New Delhi, Feb 28: Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Thursday lauded Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, and said the General Budget for 2013-14 presented by him in Parliament is prudent, productive and progressive.

“I think if you look at the budget in its totality and in its entirety, the budget is prudent, productive and progressive. We must understand that in a very difficult economic situation and international situation which has been economically choppy for the last number of years, the Finance Minister has done a commendable job in delivering a budget which would boost growth, which would enhance the cause of equity and ultimately make India a better and a happier nation to live in,” Tewari told media outside the Parliament here.

Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal said that he is very happy with the budget, saying the Finance Minister has taken care of the poor and taken care to provide incentives for growth.

“I don’t think that any Finance Minister would have done better. For the common people in fact, there is no increase in the tax rate. For 42,000 people, who disclose a taxable income of more than one crore, he has suggested a surcharge. He has taken care of the subsidy bill, which is 2,31,000 crores,” said Sibal.

“He has given enough allocations to all the ministries, which are involved in the social sector,” he added.

Today’s budget is significant as the nation faces the next Lok Sabha polls in April-May next year. (ANI)
