New Delhi, Mar 6: Terming as extremely unfortunate the killing of a cop in Punjab’s Tarn Taran District, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur on Wednesday said it is a challenging task to maintain law and order in a country, which is so diverse.
“If you look at the law and order situation in the country, it is nothing to write home about. It is unfortunate that these incidents happen where they do. But I think it is the duty of every government to take immediate and strict action, which acts as a deterrent for these things in the future,” said Kaur.
“To say that any government can eliminate any kind of law and order issue is not even possible in western countries leave alone in a country as big and diverse as ours,” she added.
Congress leader Ambika Soni commenting on this incident said in Punjab always muscle power and brawn have been a very important part of this charge of duties by law enforcing agencies.
“For a long time we have been trying to say that this is not right. Rules and regulations and the word of law must be the thing. What we saw recently in Tarn Taran, Dalit girl really being hit and beaten all the stories that they are taking out now in their own defence are not credible at all this is happening all the time in Punjab,” she said.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Balbir Punj on his part vehemently exclaimed that the perpetrators of such attacks must be brought to justice.
“Those who are guilty must be brought to book because Punjab is a very prosperous state. It has had a very violent history at one point of time, but now under the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) leadership and under the leadership of Sri Parkash Singh Badal (Chief Minister of Punjab) this state is doing very well and nobody has the right to spoil that atmosphere,” said Punj.
“So, those people who are responsible for this sort of a heinous crime must be brought to court,” he added.
Tension gripped Punjab’s Tarn Taran district today after an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was found dead in the fields of Geobala village in Amritsar. According to reports, the ASI was trying to stop the mob of farmers carrying out the ‘rail roko’ protest.
Investigations are on to find out the exact cause of death. (ANI)
