Lok Sabha stalled over Sri Lankan Tamils, Beni Prasad’s remark

New Delhi, Mar 20: The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday following an uproar over issues relating to Sri Lankan Tamils and Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma’s remarks against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, members from DMK, AIADMK and CPI trooped into the well of the House raising slogans against alleged atrocities on Tamils in Sri Lanka.

They were soon joined in the Well by SP members, who carried copies of press reports on Verma’s comments on Yadav.

They shouted slogans seeking the Minister’s removal. Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon and later for the day.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha too.

Verma on Monday hit back at Mulayam Singh Yadav after the latter demanded his sacking from the Union Cabinet.

“Who is Mulayam to ask for my removal? Has he made me the minister? He should apologise, for he has betrayed the nation,” he told media here.

Verma had earlier in a rally in his constituency of Gonda, around 200 kms from Lucknow, said that the Samajwadi Party chief has links with terrorists. He also alleged that Yadav was corrupt and a “dacoit”. (ANI)
