Majority of Americans support cuts to federal spending, but not to military

Washington, mar. 7: Majority number of Americans support across-the-board cuts to federal spending, but want to spare the military the same pain, a new poll has found.

The ABC/Washington Post Poll found that 61 percent of Americans back a five percent across-the-board cut in spending, but only 34 percent want an eight percent across-the-board cut in military spending.

The poll found that a majority of Democrats, independents and Republicans want the five percent cut, and a majority of Republicans and independents oppose the military cuts.

According to Politico, the poll found that Democrats are divided, with 47 percent wanting the defense cuts and 48 percent opposing them.

The broad support for general spending cuts contrasts with opposition to specific cuts. (ANI)
