Republican strategist claims party ‘doesn’t give equal opportunities to women’

Washington, Mar 11: Republican Strategist Steve Schmidt spoke some harsh words for his own party, criticizing the GOP’s stance on equal opportunity for women.

During a roundtable discussion with NBC’s ‘Meet The Press’, Schmidt vowed that any organization where women are ‘not at the table’ is ‘going to have problems’.

He said that the problem was structurally in the Republican Party. Any company, any organization in today’s day and age that doesn’t give equal opportunity to women, that doesn’t advance women to the table, is going to be an organization that has difficulty competing.

According to the Huffington Post, the roundtable was centered on Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s appearance on the cover of TIME Magazine and the release of her book, ‘Lean In’.

Economist Paul Krugman weighed in on the workplace debate on ABC’s This Week, commenting that Sandberg’s success highlights a broader problem.

He said that she is not talking about the problems of every woman. That’s okay, adding that the debate in itself is telling us about how unprepared we are to have women as a full part of our society.

The Republican Party struggled in 2012 with women voters, thanks to a series of controversial viewpoints on topics ranging from birth control to rape, the report added. (ANI)
