Ranchi, March 12: Three women were crushed to death under a heap of coal while illegally extracting it from a mine in Jharkhand Tuesday, police said.
More than six women were extracting coal from the mine in Kathara colliery of Central Coalfields Ltd in Bokaro district, around 140 km from here. A heap of coal fell on them, killing three on the spot. The rest escaped unhurt, said a police officer.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
Illegal mining is rampant in the eastern state and hundreds have died while extracting coal illegally.
