New Delhi, Aug. 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday blamed the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government in Delhi for not addressing the problems of migrants from certain areas of neighbouring states to the national capital.
Addressing a gathering of migrants from Poorvanchal, the BJP leaders criticized the administrative policies of the Congress Government in Delhi.
They alleged that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was apathetic to the problems of migrants who in spite of playing a great role in Delhi’s development have not been able to feel at home in the city.
“The Congress has been ruling Delhi from past 14 years and they have got leaders like Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi at the Centre. What we got in all these years except starvation, unemployment, inflation and corruption,” said former BJP President Nitin Gadkari.
In a bid to garner support in the upcoming assembly elections, the Delhi state unit of BJP held a ‘Poorvanchal Sammelan’ in the national capital where senior leaders promised changes for the migrants from Poorvanchal if they come to power.
“The Congress has ignored Poovanchalis and the poor man. They have not paid any heed to their problems. They say that authorised residential colonies are not authorised or legal. There is no sewage system. There is no system for drinking water system. The electricity bills are touching the sky. Migrants left their land and came here looking to earn their livelihood, but inflation is so high in Delhi that they hardly have any option,” said BJP leader Vijay Goel.
Delhi along with four other states will go to polls in November before the general elections in April 2014. (ANI)
