Washington, Aug. 21: A 9/11 defendant has reportedly claimed that the US military deliberately withheld olives and honey from his meals in the Guantanamo Bay to torture him ‘psychologically’.
Ramzi Binalshibh, accused of deaths of 2,976 innocents on 9/11, told the judge during the pretrial hearing that there were ‘big problems’ with the food that was provided in the cell.
Spokesman at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Navy Capt. Robert Durand, said that Binalshibh received a ‘freshly prepared standard detainee halal meal’ but complained that his lunch did not include condiments such as olives and honey, New York Daily News reports.
A Guantanamo Bay spokesman said that a typical halal detainee meal includes a lamb, chicken or beef entree, with rice, beans, chickpeas, hummus, pita bread, fruit and salad.
According to the report, Binalshibh has also claimed that the military guards torment him with ‘intentional exposure to sounds and vibrations’ in his jail cell.
His defense lawyer, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Bogucki, asserted that the jihadist does not suffer from a delusional disorder, despite reports that he has been treated for schizophrenia. (ANI)
