Itanagar, Aug 28: After the nation was shamed following the gang-rape of a 22-year-old photo journalist in Mumbai and gang-rape of a woman cop in Jhakhand’s Latehar district on August 22, Arunachal Pradesh has added a new leaf to the shaming record of India.
While the journalist was on a photo shot, the woman cop was returning with the body of her brother-in-law, a cop who was killed in a recent Naxal attack.
Likabali police station OC SI Damgen Dulom under Likabali sub-division of West Siang district Arunchal Pradesh sustained grievous injuries when the enraged public imposed a 12-hour Likabali bandh called to protest against the heinous crime of rape of about 14 minor girl students in the age group of five to forteen of Green Valley Residential English School over a period of time and resorted to stone pelting at the PS today.
“The OC, who had sustained grievous injuries in his retina and fainted during the stone pelting, has been evacuated by road on being referred to Arunachal State Hospital. The agitated mob also set furniture of the school on fire during the bandh,” said West Siang SP SC Yadav over telephone.
Vipin Vishwant, a teacher-cum warden of the private school in Liku village under Likabali sub-division, was arrested by police after three of his victims spilled the bean before the police on Tuesday morning, but the people laid siege to the police station and demanded the accused be handed over to them.
Vishwant from Kerala had allegedly been violating the chastity of minor children – boarders at the school – for a considerable period of time and managed to put a lid on the shameful scandal by instilling the fear of punishment in the students.
The matter came to light this morning when three of the victims took the bold step and verbally narrated the torments meted out to them by the teacher at the Likabali police station.
Based on the complaint, the Likabali Police swung into action and nabbed the perpetrator of the heinous crime and launched an investigation.
The children had repeatedly lodged complaints against the teacher to the principal, but the principal turned a deaf ear each time.
Angry parents and public laid siege to the police station the police station on Tuesday, and demanded that the culprit to be handed over to them.
The angry mob also destroyed a Tata Winger and a Maruti van belonging to the school used by the teachers to rush to the PS fearing retaliation.
Meanwhile, as did scores of users of Facebook and other social networking sites, the civil society, including the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has demanded capital punishment for the accused, terming it a great shame that a teacher could indulge in such inhuman activity. By Pradeep Kumar(ANI)
