London, Sep 6: Ferrari star Fernando Alonso has said that he wants to end his Formula One career with the Italian side, which he branded the best team in the world.
According to the Daily Express, although there are eight races still left in the F1 calendar, Ferrari needs to start pushing in with a fighting chance in their home Italian Grand Prix to see Alonso on top of the podium.
However, the report said that even though the Spaniard still has hopes for this year, it may prove too late for him as rival Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull has built a 46-point lead on him in the drivers’ championship.
Despite the situation, Alonso backed his wish to stay with Ferrari till his retirement from the sport, saying that even though Ferrari is not achieving the results that they want, they are working very hard, adding that he intends to respect and improve in the remaining three-and-a-half years that he has with Ferrari.
According to Alonso, they will have completely new rules next year that will open the door to many teams to stop the domination that Red Bull seems to have currently, adding that Ferrari has high hopes for next year’s challenge.
Hoping to add to the titles that he won with Renault, Alonso also said that they would try and do their best to win the next two races as they have won two Grands Prix until now in the championship, although he admitted that finishing in front of Vettel means finishing on the podium as a minimum.
