New Delhi, Sep 9: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said the Central Government would immediately release sufficient funds from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to Himachal Pradesh for undertaking relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction works in flood affected areas of the state.
The Prime Minister conveyed this message to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his cabinet when they called on him at the Prime Minister’s official 7 Race Course Road residence here.
The Himachal Pradesh delegation had requested Dr. Singh to provide financial assistance from the NDRF for relief and rehabilitation works in the flood affected areas of the state.
Virbhadra Singh informed Dr. Singh about the massive losses caused to the state by heavy rainfall, which therefore, required central Government assistance through the NDRF and the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
He said that first installment of SDRF amounting to Rs.68.12 crore was released by the Central Government in July 2013 and the State Government has released its share of Rs.15.14 crore.
He said that total Rs.129.24 crores has been released to various departments and district administration for providing immediate relief to the affected areas.
He further said that the state as whole experienced heavy rainfall which was 576 percent to 1358 percent above normal during the 15-17 June 2013. Kinnaur and Sirmour district were the worst affected, he added.
He said that a total of 69 human lives have been lost and 2427 animals had perished in the flash floods. The floods had also badly damaged 11,157 houses, 4519 roads, 2763 water supply schemes, he added.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sympathised with the flood victims of the state and assured all possible central assistance.
He also appreciated the relief and rehabilitation works undertaken by the state government in restoring the normalcy in the flood-affected areas.
The delegation comprised of Vidya Stokes IPH, Horticulture Minister, Kaul Singh Thakur Health and Family Welfare Minister, G.S. Bali, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Sujan Singh Pathania, Agriculture Minister, Thakur Singh Bharmouri Forest Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri Industries and IPR Minister, Sudhir Sharma Urban Development Minister, Prakash Cahdhary Excise and Taxation Minister, Dr. (Col) D.R.Shandil Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Anil Sharma Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Shrikant Baldi Pr. Secy. (Finance) were present in the delegation. AICC General Secretary Ambika Soni also accompanied the delegation. (ANI)
