London, Sep 12: Scientists have revealed that old-fashioned plimsoll shoes with flat soles are better for children’s feet than modern cushioned trainers because they teach the young people to learn to run using their front foot.
Modern trainers with thick heels makes it more difficult for the kids to run more naturally by using the front foot, the Independent reported.
Mick Wilkinson, a sport and exercise scientist at Northumbria University in Newcastle, advised parents that they should not go for expensive big-cushioned shoes, instead they can just buy a pair of flexible, flat shoes for their kids.
Wilkinson told the British Science Festival in Newcastle that if someone is going to learn to run from first principles, let them learn using their natural equipment as much as possible.
The research said that although the cushioned trainers have become a universal fashion item for young people, they are not necessarily the best kind of footwear for kids looking forward to taking up sports and running. (ANI)
