Washington, Sep 27: American tennis player Serena Williams, who recently celebrated her 32nd birthday, has secured the year end World No.1 ranking on the WTA tour, which will be only the third time in her career that she will end the season on the top.
According to TennisWorldUSA.org, Serena achieved the feat in 2002 and 2009 earlier.
The player has won 9 WTA titles this season, including the French Open and US Open and has a 67-4 record on the tour, the report said.
Serena is likely to break the 10 million dollar prize money barrier this year, the report added.
WTA Chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster said that Serena had proven time and time again throughout her career that she is an incredible champion, both on and off the court, adding that this season she continues to rewrite the record books, proving she is one of the sport’s greatest athletes of all time.
