New York, Oct 5: 64-year old endurance swimmer Diana Nyad will donate the money she raised during her 48-hour swim in Herald Square to relief groups in the Rockaways and Staten Island for people affected by Superstorm Sandy.
According to the New York Daily News, Nyad raised more than 110,000 dollars from the swim.
She said in a statement that it is difficult to forget people who are still suffering.
In Midland Beach, Staten Island, Project Hospitality will counsel people who are still scarred, a year after 14-foot waves pounded the area and devastated property along with its owners, the report said.
Nyad said that the 48 hours of swimming in Herald Square, such a vital and emotional event for everybody who participated and watched the live stream, at the very last brought the Sandy story back into the forefront of the public consciousness. (ANI)
