London, Oct 12: President Barack Obama has agreed to sign a short-term increase to the United States borrowing limit, but it should be free from Republican budget and policy demands.
The White House spokesman Jay Carney, after several rounds of talks among Obama and Senate and House Republicans, said the president wants the Congress to pass a ‘clean debt ceiling’ of short duration, the BBC reports.
The statement comes on the 11th day of a partial government shutdown over budget negotiations.
The Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore will now re-open with the funding provided by the states of New York, Arizona and South Dakota.
However, other national parks and monuments will remain closed due to the deadlock.
The U.S. is heading towards default, if it does not raise its debt limit by 17 Oct er, the report added.
The shutdown has sent home thousands of government workers on unpaid leave. (ANI)
