Arvinder Singh Lovely takes charge as Delhi Congress President

New Delhi, Dec. 29: Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely took charge as the Delhi Congress President on Sunday and thanked Congress President Sonia Gandhi for thinking him to be worthy of the post.

“I would like to thank Sonia Gandhi, who thought that I was worthy of this position.

I will try my best to live up to the expectations of Mrs. Gandhi, the party people and the public,” said Lovely.

“Even though we lost the Delhi elections, I would like to thank the party workers who worked hard during the polls and devoted so much to the party,” he said.

“I have reached this position due to Rahul Gandhi and his thinking that common man deserves a chance,” he added.

Commenting on the support of the Congress to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) he said that they supported them because that was the verdict on the public.

“Congress has always respected people’s verdict. This is the reason why we extended support to AAP. We will support AAP for all the good work they will do for the people in Delhi, but our role will be that of the Opposition,” he said.

“We have respected people’s mandate and therefore extended support to AAP manifesto,” he added.

“But there will be no compromise with the respect of the party,” he said.

He further said that Congress did not want to make false promises and betray the people.

“Congress does not make false promises as we do not want to betray the people. It does not matter if we win or lose we will not compromise with or principles as we have nothing to fear,” he added. (ANI)
