Court grants one day remand to rape accused Sai

New Delhi, Dec.4 (ANI) A Delhi court on Wednesday granted a one day transit remand to self styled Godman Asaram Bapu’s son, Narayan Sai who has been accused of rape, as the court was not ready with the complete documentation.

All the three accused namely, Narayan Sai, Kaushal Thakur and Ramesh Malhotra has been handed over to the Gujarat police for a day by Metropolitan magistrate Dheeraj Mor.

“All the three accused have been granted transit remand for a day. The court is not ready with the complete documentation yet” said lawyer A.B Singh.

Defence lawyer, Ranjit Rana said that the proceedings went on for one and a half hours but they could not show any diary.

“Sai was going to surrender at Kurukshetra. In fact, he said he had even spoken to the police personal. But, he police stopped him on the way” he said.

The rape victims who had filed the complaint were not present at the court.

Narayan Sai was arrested by a joint team in Pipli, Haryana on Wednesday.

According to television reports, Sai had been on the run for the past 58 days.

Surat police had registered two complaints – one against Asaram and the other against his son Sai of rape, sexual assault and illegal confinement as alleged by two sisters on Oct er 6.

Earlier on November 11, a local court declared Sai a proclaimed absconder under section 82 of CrPC, and asked him to appear before investigating officer or court within 30 days from the day of declaration of “proclamation for person absconding”.

The elder of the two sisters has accused Asaram of sexually assaulting her between 1997 and 2006 at his ashram, while the younger sister has filed a complaint against Sai, accusing him of repeated sexual assaults between 2002 and 2005 at the Surat ashram.

Asaram, 72, was arrested on September 1 on allegations of sexual assault on a minor at his ashram in Jodhpur. (ANI)
