Melbourne, Dec. 8: A man, from Georgia, has been ordered to pay his wife 55,000 dollars for “breach of promise.”
Melissa Cooper had quit her job and had a child with her ex- Christopher Kelley; she even raised another child that he had from a previous relationship, News.com.au reported.
In 2004, Kelley proposed Cooper and gave her a ring valued at approximately 11,000 dollars.
But when Cooper found that Kelley was cheating on her for the second time, he reportedly asked her to move out.
According to Courthouse News, Cooper then sued him for fraud and breach of promise to marry, claiming she quit her job took child-rearing responsibilities expecting that he would marry her.
Kelley tried getting out of this by saying that the promise to marry was made in a relationship that was similar to prostitution.
However, Georgia Appeals Court ruled that the relationship had not involved the exchange of money for co-habitation and sexual favours. (ANI)
