UAE gives $10 mn in aid to Malaysia

Abu Dhabi, Dec 23 (IANS/WAM) The UAE will give 36.6 million dirhams ($10 million) in humanitarian aid for thousands of people affected by floods in Malaysia, according to an order by President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE aid will help more than 20,000 Malaysian families in Kelantan and Pahang states, where floods swept several areas, causing massive destruction to properties.

The Red Crescent Authority, which will implement the initiative, will repair more than 20,000 damaged houses and provide the families with basic materials procured from Malaysia’s domestic markets.

The UAE’s initiative will enable more than 100,000 Malaysians to return to their homes and begin working to restore normalcy in their lives.
