Chennai, Jan.24: Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo M Karunanidhi on Friday said that the decision to suspend M. K Alagiri would not affect the party in any way.
He said that it is media’s imagination if they consider this suspension to be a move to please the DMDK.
Responding to a question on whether Alagiri’s suspension would affect DMK’s election prospects, especially in Madurai where he is a popular figure, Karunanidhi said that there is no threat to the party. Suggestions that it would have effect on DMK’s poll prospects are just a figment of the media’s imagination, he remarked.
DMK leader and Karunanidhi’s son M K Stalin said: “The party took a decision on it and explained it clearly. My views on it are the same.”
Earlier in the day, DMK general secretary Anbazhagan justified the suspension of M.K Alagiri from the party, stating that this decision was taken to maintain decorum in the party.
“In order to maintain the decorum in the party and to keep it organized, the party has taken this decision,” he told media here today.
A press statement in Tamil issued by party general secretary Anbazhagan said: “To safeguard the party’s intact decisions, disrespecting the party decisions, and disrespecting party forums cannot be accepted.”
“Therefore, the organizing secretary of the party M.K Alagiri’s association the party will not be feasible to continue. Therefore he is suspended from all party positions temporarily,” the statement added.
