New Delhi, Jan. 15: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ranjit Sinha on Wednesday announced that the CBI would soon set up a special cell to handle cases related to sports fraud, fixing and illegal betting.
Sinha made this announcement at the FIFA-Interpol national workshop in New Delhi.
He said, the lack of a legal framework is the main hurdle in probing cases related to sports fraud.
The unit will act as a repository of intelligence and data related to corruption in sports, he added.
He said the CBI has taken notice of the growing menace of corruption in sports in general and challenges in football and other sports in particular.
Media reports quoted CBI sources, as saying that a law to tackle corruption in sports is in the final stages of drafting by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. (ANI)
