Congress backs Rahul, says ‘many ministers in Modi’s cabinet were involved in Gujarat riots’

Bhopal, Jan.28,: Supporting Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s remarks that ‘Gujarat Government was actually abetting and pushing the 2002 riots further’, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday said several ministers in Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet were involved in the Godhra riots.

“There was definitely a difference between 2002 and 1984 riots. At the time 1984 riots, Rajiv Gandhi, whose mother’s dead body was lying in the house, he went out on streets to help the administration in controlling the riots. Whereas in 2002 riots, the Gujarat Police and the ministers were themselves inciting riots in the state,” Digvijay told media here today.

He further asked, “Was Maya Kodnani not a minister in Modi’s cabinet? There are several cases going on against several BJP workers.”

In an interview to Times Now editor in chief Arnab Goswami on Monday, Rahul Gandhi said: “The difference between the 1984 riots and the riots in Gujarat was that in 1984, the Government was trying to stop the riots. I remember, I was a child then, I remember the Government was doing everything it could to stop the riots. In Gujarat the opposite was the case. The Government in Gujarat was actually abetting and pushing the riots further.” (ANI)
