New Delhi, Jan. 20: Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in the New Delhi District area to prevent the assembly of five or more persons ahead of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s planned protest outside the Union Home Ministry on Monday.
Delhi Police PRO Rajan Bhagat was quoted by media, as saying that the precautionary step has been taken in view of the Republic Day.
Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh has confirmed that the protest will be held despite the prohibitory orders.
The AAP has asked Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to suspend Delhi Police personnel for alleged dereliction of duty last week.
Kejriwal, accompanied by Cabinet colleagues had met Shinde on Friday to demand the suspension of the guilty policemen by 10 a.m. on Monday, failing which the protest would take place.
The Home Ministry has sought a report from the Delhi Police over the three incidents for which Chief Minister Kejriwal has demanded action against four police officials.
The incidents relate to the negligence of the police in busting an the alleged prostitution racket in South Delhi, alleged failure in nabbing those involved in a dowry death case in West Delhi and the reported failure to prevent the gang rape of a Danish woman near New Delhi railway station.
The Delhi Police has filed the FIR against unknown persons in connection with the case of alleged harassment of African women in South Delhi. (ANI)
