Johannesburg, Jan 5: Borussia Dortmund player Robert Lewandowski has reportedly agreed to join his club’s archrivals Bayern Munich at the end of the season as a free agent under a five-year contract.
The Poland forward and the Bundesliga leading scorer will see out the rest of his contract with Dortmund, which runs until the end of this season, before joining Bayern on July 1.
According to Sport24, Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that the club is satisfied that Lewandowski’s transfer went through, adding that the footballer is one of the best forwards in the world, and will strengthen the Bayern squad.
The report mentioned that Lewandowski became the second top Dortmund player to leave for Bayern after Mario Goetze, one of the jewels of Dortmund’s youth academy also joined the Bavarian club last year in a shock 37 million-euro deal.
Lewandowski, whose pace and control makes him perfect for Dortmund’s high-tempo game, has scored 11 league goals so far this term, was the Bundesliga’s third-highest scorer with 22 in 2011/12 and second in the scoring charts with 24 last season, the report added. (ANI)
