New Delhi/Kolkata/Vidisha/Patna, Jan.26: The 65th Republic Day was celebrated across the country in the spirit of patriotism and brotherhood to showcase unity in diversity on Sunday.
President Pranab Mukherjee unfurled the tricolour, and took salute at Rajpath. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was the Chief Guest at the celebrations.
The Indian Airforce showcased awe inspiring flight formations in the grand finale of Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.
West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan unfurled the tricolour and took salute. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee graced her presence at the parade in Kolkata amid array of cultural programmes to showcase the rich heritage of the state.
Meanwhile, patriotic fever also gripped Madhya Pradesh, as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan took the Republic day salute and inspected the parade.
Bihar Governor DY Patil hoisted the tricolour, and witnessed an impressive parade by security forces. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar urged people to spread the message of love and brotherhood, and working towards taking this nation forward.
Similar celebrations were witnessed Lucknow city as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav attended the parade.
Mumbai witnessed a colourful parade at the Marine Drive. Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the parade.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh unfurled the national flag in Raipur and inspected the Republic Day parade.
Karnataka governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj unfurled the tricolour and inspected a guard of honour at the Field Marshal Manekshaw parade ground.
Patriotic fever also gripped Chennai, as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and Governor, K. Rosaiah were soaked in the spirit of nationalism.
In a bid to strengthen Indo-Pak camaraderie, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel exchanged sweets with Pakistan Rangers at the Wagah – Attari border in Amritsar.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh unfurled the tricolour at the party headquarters. (ANI)
