London, Jan 7: Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his 400th career goal in his side’s 3-0 victory over Spanish rivals Celta Vigo in the La Liga, which reduced the gap on league leaders Barcelona.
Ronaldo’s brace, which saw him become the fourth highest scorer in Real Madrid’s La Liga history, masked what had been a pedestrian performance by the side, which is now five points adrift of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in third.
According to the BBC, the Portugal captain has now scored 400 goals in 653 games in all competitions – taking his season’s tally to 28 and boosting his chances for the Ballon d’Or award, for which he is already a favourite to win.
The report mentioned that Celta had wasted a number of chances before Real’s Karim Benzema capitalised on shoddy defending by prodding home, following which Ronaldo made sure of a win by converting Daniel Carvajal’s cross late in the second half.
In the final seconds of the match, Ronaldo added gloss to the scoreline after being put through by Gareth Bale, a 65th minute substitute, the report added. (ANI)
