According to media reports, property worth about Rs.4 crore has been destroyed. No casualty was, however, reported.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, the fire started around 8 p.m. in a garment shop in the Matke Wali Gali of the Sadar Bazar market.
“At least 80 to 90 percent of the fire has been doused. The fire brigade was here the whole night. One building has been burnt completely,” said one witness
Shankar, another witness, said: “Yesterday night, the fire occurred at around 8.45 p.m. The fire brigade fought to douse the fire.”
Amarjeet Singh, another witness, said: “The fire brigade was here all night. The fire was a tough one. There were two or three buildings touching together, so, the fire spread.”
At least 27 fire-tenders were used to douse the flames. It took more than two hours for the fire officials to douse the flame completely.
Apart from a garment store, a jewellery shop and a bag shop were severely damaged by the fire.
The exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained yet, though police are saying that it was caused by an electric short-circuit in the garment shop. (ANI)
