Jerusalem, Feb 17: At least five people were killed and 12 others injured Monday in a propane tank explosion in Israel, a police spokesperson said.
“It’s not clear whether the origin of the explosion was a leak in the gas tank or an electric short circuit,” Xinhua quoted police spokesperson Mickey Rosenfeld as saying.
The blast occurred at a residential building in Acre city.
Police are looking into the details and not ruling out any possibility, including potential foul play in an attempt to damage cellular antennae located at the top of the building, Rosenfeld said.
Residents of the building said there have been attempts to torch the antennae out of the fear that it might cause cancer.
