Sydney, Mar 1: West Indies has defeated England by 15 runs in the first ODI on Friday in the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium at St.Peter’s after the visitors wasted an excellent platform that had put them in position to take the lead in the three-match series.
In reply to the hosts’ competitive total of 6-269, England was restricted to 6-254, with Michael Lumb (106) becoming only the second England player after Dennis Amiss to make a century on ODI debut.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Lumb enjoyed an opening partnership of 96 with fellow first-timer Moeen Ali (44), although England lost their way in the home stretch, losing 4-31 when the Caribbean side plundered 116 runs off the last ten overs.
Despite taking three wickets, England bowler Tim Bresnan and fellow fast-medium bowler, Barbadian-born Chris Jordan, conceded 135 runs off a combined 19 overs, the report added. (ANI)
