Chhattisgarh Maoist attack: State IB official puts death toll at 16

Raipur, Mar.11,: Dipanshu Kabra, Deputy Inspector General, State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), on Tuesday confirmed that the death toll from the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh stood at 16, which includes eleven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, four personnel of the district force and one civilian, who is yet to be identified.

“Our security forces comprising a party of CRPF troops along with state reserve police force numbering 40, went on a search operation based on specific inputs which suggested the presence of approximately 100-150 Naxals here, alongwith more cadres of Red extremists joining from neighbouring Orissa. All the deceased died of bullet injuries. We are yet to receive details on the number of Maoists who had died in the gunbattle.”

Earlier, television reports said that the Maoist IED-cum-gunfire attack was launched on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) search and patrol party that left atleast twenty paramilitary personnel dead in the Jheerum area of Chhattisgarh’s Jagadalpur District on Tuesday. (ANI)
