New Delhi, Mar. 6: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Spokesperson Shazia Ilmi on Thursday said that she regretted the party’s violent reaction after being provoked by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for an hour and added that Delhi Police was biased and equivalent to the Gujarat police in discriminating.
“We were protesting peacefully in front of the BJP office, when suddenly the BJP members started throwing things at us. From stones to bricks to wooden planks to water cannons. A lot of our party members got hurt, and reacted to what was happening by throwing those things back after being provoked for an hour and I regret even that,” said Ilmi.
“But the Delhi police did not notice what the BJP people were doing from so long. They did not react to it, but when we did, they started charging us, this shows how biased the Delhi police is and that they are no less than the Gujarat police,” she said.
“Also, I regret the reaction of our party members to their provocation. They should not have reacted in a violent way, even if they would have provoked us for thirty hours, as we do not believe in violence and none of our protests have been violent so far. We are ready for any kind of arrest but this arrest would be wrong. We would not retreat to any violent means as that is against what we believe in but we will definitely ask for an independent enquiry,” she added.
AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said that the party would be complaining to the Election Commission about the whole issue.
“Over 14 of our party workers have been injured, and still the police did not arrest any of the BJP workers. It clearly shows on the footage that Modi was running with a stick and he beat up a few of our party members,” said Bhushan.
“The BJP and Congress just want to stamp on the AAP. We are going to complain about whatever happened in Delhi, Gujarat and Lucknow,” he added.
AAP workers on Wednesday fought pitched battles with BJP activists outside the saffron party headquarters here hours after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was detained briefly in Gujarat.
The Gujarat Police stated that Kejriwal had not taken permission from them to hold road show. (ANI)
