London, Mar. 06: Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that sporting success is no longer an interest for modern footballers as they are motivated by a desire for wealth and fame.
Mourinho has said that he feels earlier players were trying to make money during their career and become rich at the end of their career, but now the people who surround them make these youngsters rich before their career starts.
According to the Daily Star, Mourinho, who has won league titles in four different countries, said that people made the modern players rich, even when they have not played a single match in the Premier League, when they sign their first contract, which puts the clubs in difficult conditions sometimes.
The Portuguese also added that they have to find the right boy who has ‘pride’ and ‘passion’ for the game and who dreams of playing at the highest level, win titles, because money would follow them at the end of their career, the report said.
However, Mourinho said that he is 51 and the young players are twenty-something and in order to work with them he has to ‘understand their world’ because of the generation gap. (ANI)
