Washington, March 22: The US will continue to provide support to Syrian refugees and host communities in Lebanon, US President Barack Obama told Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam Friday.
During their telephonic conversation, Obama thanked Salam for Lebanon’s assistance to refugees from Syria, Xinhua quoted a White House statement as saying.
Recognising the difficulties being faced by Lebanon due to Syrian conflict, Obama emphasised on the importance of all parties observing Lebanon’s policy of disassociation, the statement said.
Lebanon is hosting over 952,000 Syrian refugees. But Lebanese officials put the figure at about 1.2 million, according to the UN Higher Commission for Refugees.
Obama also reiterated US commitment to working with Lebanon to promote its security, unity, and sovereignty, the statement added.
