BJP to EC: Prevent broadcasting of Cobrapost sting on Babri Mosque demolition

New Delhi, Apr.4: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday asked the Election Commission (EC) to immediately seize the video related to the alleged sting operation conducted by Cobrapost in connection with the Babri Mosque demolition of December 6, 1992, to prevent the election atmosphere from getting spoilt.

“These kinds of acts which the Congress is resorting to, is a conspiracy to vitiate the electoral atmosphere and polarise society at large. They (the Congress) are doing this out of utter frustration. The general public is angered by this. Apparently, news is surfacing today where there is talk of an NGO named Cobrapost, which is preparing to show their sting operation on such a sensitive issue like Babri Masjid and Ramjanmabhoomi to the public. This has the potential to destroy communal harmony when the nation is in poll mode. The EC should seize such sensitive materials that could poison the election environment,” Naqvi said.

“We have already spoken to the Election Commission today, and have written a letter to them to stop the immediate broadcasting of the sting operation done by Cobrapost. We also demand that the Election Commission find out who were the perpetrators who allowed such a sting to be done in the first place. It is the responsibility of the EC to ensure that they conduct free and fair elections so that people can participate in voting without any fear,” Naqvi added.

An elaborate sting operation, conducted by Cobrapost on 23 key people of the Ram Janambhoomi movement, claims that the fall of the disputed 16th century structure on December 6, 1992, was elaborately planned by the various wings of the Sangh Parivar and executed with precision by trained volunteers.

It wasn’t, as has been claimed, a case of mob frenzy going out of control, leading to the collapse of the Babri Masjid. (ANI)
