BJP, RSS question contribution of Muslims in country: Azam Khan

Rampur, Apr.9: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Wednesday said he will reply to the Election Commission’s notice if he gets it for his controversial remarks and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of questioning the role of the Muslims in the country.

Late on Tuesday, Azam Khan made a remark linking the role played by what he called “Muslim soldiers” in the Kargil conflict during his election campaign in Ghaziabad.

“Well it is responsibility of the Election Commission to issue a notice when someone complains to them. We will give our answer to their notice,” he said.

On Akhilesh Yadav’s clarification that there was equal contribution from all the communities during Kargil war, Azam said, “He has said that Muslims also contributed along with Hindu and Sikhs in Kargil so I am also saying that. It is the RSS and the BJP who is questioning the contribution of the Muslims.”

“This has been said by our CM. We want that the Gujarat Chief Minister should also say that. I also accept that country is for everyone,” he added.

Khan also said that today, Muslims have to clarify everything and it is unfortunate that they have to clarify that we also give our lives for the country.

“We always have to make them realize that we also contributed and sacrificed our lives. This is a pitiable condition of Muslims in this country which is unfortunate,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has sought details of the Khan’s speech in Ghaziabad. (ANI)
