Raja Sansi (Amritsar), Apr.9: Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday asked people to vote for the Lok Sabha elections without any fear and ensure that their true voice is heard in the parliament.
He also said that Punjab Cabinet Minister Bikram Majithia and Anil Joshi were enough to get BJP candidate Arun Jaitley defeated from Amritsar.
“Anger and resentment against them is so much that Mr. Jaitley does not need more enemies”, he said to a thundering applause from the crowd.
He also struck an emotional chord with the people of Raja Sansi recalling his personal association with the place, as his daughter Ms Jai Inder Kaur is married to S Gurpal Singh the grandson of famous Major Harinder Singh Raja Sansi.
Addressing a public meeting organized by the local MLA Sukh Sarkaria, Capt Amarinder exhorted upon people to come out on April 30 and vote without any fear. He assured that the Parliamentary elections are held under the direct supervision of the Election Commission of India and there is no possibility of anybody intimidating them.
Among others he was accompanied by his son-in-law S Gurpal Singh, Sukh Sarkria and other senior party leaders of the area.
Moreover, he added that the people of Punjab, particularly the border areas like Raja Sansi, were brave and courageous and has always come to defence of the entire nation.
He said Raja Sansi is an example of courage and people here have always stood by the Congress.
The former Chief Minister also said that he is aware of the problems of the people living in the border area. He also said that after getting elected he will take up the case of farmers whose land falls outside the fence which has led to substantial losses for them.
He favored special package for the border areas, and said he understood the problem of living on the border. Besides, he added that there were other problems like unemployment coupled with the drug addiction and the drug trafficking patronized by the Akalis.
Capt Amarinder claimed to have met hundreds of farmers who have been complaining to him that the state government had hardly bothered about them.
“Even the promised free power for 8 hours is in the name only”, he said, while adding, he was told that the electricity is not even supplied for two hours. Same is the case with the procurement, he added, while disclosing that he was told that the farmers are subjected to extortion and people in mandis take commission for selling their produce.
Earlier Capt Amarinder addressed a well attended public meeting at village Boru in Attari assembly segment. He appealed people to vote for the Congress for a progressive and prosperous Punjab. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)
