‘Family man’ Amir Khan backs imminent fatherhood to make him better boxer

London, Apr 30: British boxer Amir Khan has said that becoming a father will keep him settled and make him a better fighter than before, ahead of his upcoming bout with American Luis Collazo at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand.

Khan’s wife Faryal is due to give birth to the couple’s first child at the end of the month and the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion is desperate to be at the birth of their daughter and does not want the baby coming early when he is in the US.

According to the Mirror, Khan, who has told his wife not to watch his fight with Collazo in case it sends her into labour, believes that becoming a father will help with his boxing and keep him settled as he will have someone to look after.

Khan accepts he will take on greater responsibilities when he becomes a father, but he claims he will not consider quitting, even though he has said he would retire at 28, as boxing has always been there in his life and his wife respects that fact.

Khan further said that he wants to retire himself and believes it will be the time for him to stop when he starts making ‘silly’ mistakes.

Khan has consistently denied cheating on his wife, but accepts it is time he became a family man, the report added. (ANI)
