JFKA commits itself to promote and structure Futsal nationally

Srinagar, Apr. 22: The football association of Jammu and Kashmir has made commitment to promote and structure the sport of Futsal nationally, by means of competitions, courses and other proactive measures, such as conducting drills that encourage young soccer players to spread out.

Due to the extended winter season this year, the outdoor football grounds are poorly managed and not fit for play. Therefore, the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) has organized Futsal for soccer players that will give them a kick and help to keep up the fitness levels.

“This year, due to the extended winter, players could not practice much on the ground. Therefore, the association came up with the idea of organising Futsal for these young players, just to keep up their fitness level, and Futsal being one of the best sports for soccer players, helps them keep fit. We are committed to take Futsal to the national level. It’s a very interesting sport, which is played by five players and helps to maintain their stamina and build endurance” said Fayaz Ahmad, Futsal organizer and district president of JKFA .

The origin of Futsal (Five-a-Side Soccer) can be traced back to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930 when Juan Carlos Ceriani, an Argentinean, the inventor of Futsal, who devised a five-a-side version of soccer for youth competition in Young Men Christian Associations (YMCAs). The game is played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls.

The term FUTSAL is the international term used for the game. It is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for “soccer”.

Futsal matches would be organized at a stretch of 16 days by the football association.

The initiative has brought cheers and smiles to the faces of the budding soccer players of the valley.

“We are completely enjoying Futsal, due to weather constrains. JKFA has organised this Futsal, here in the indoor stadium, and it’s a very interesting game to play. We don’t need to worry about the weather and wet fields anymore and this helps us to maintain our fitness for the game. We can practise all day and enjoy playing Futal as well,” Ali, a football player said.

Futsal gained rapid popularity throughout South America, particularly in Brazil. The skill developed in this game is visible in the world-famous style the Brazilians display outdoors on the full-sized field. Pele, Zico, Socrates, Bebeto and other Brazilian superstars developed their skill playing Futsal. (ANI)
