McIlroy beaten by ‘non-competing’ amateur ‘marker’ at Augusta National

Sydney, Apr 13: Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy has suffered a continuation of his miserable run at the ongoing US Masters on Saturday after he was beaten by a non-competing amateur in the third round at Augusta National.

McIlroy famously blew a four shot lead on the final day of the 2011 Masters, which is the only major in which he has not finished in the top-10.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, McIlroy was assigned a marker, club member Jeff Knox, as the former world No.1 was the last of the 51 players to make the cut and also because there was an odd number.

The report mentioned although Knox was allowed to play, his main job was to record his playing partner’s score and even though Knox’s score was not officially recognised but when the pair completed their rounds, he had shot a 70 to McIlroy’s 71. (ANI)
