Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir), April 18: Suspected militants killed a sarpanch in Kashmir,once again triggering fear among grass-root level representatives.
The attack took place in Pulwama District on Thursday. The district goes to polls on April 24.
Sarpanch Mohammad Amin Pandit belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was from the Awantipora area.
The brother of the deceased Sarpanch, Abdul Majeed, said police had taken the body for a post mortem.
“Yesterday at around 9.45 p.m. (IST), suspected militants kidnapped him (Amin Pandit) and we found his body on the road 600 metres away from our house. He was shot in the head,” he said.
Since 2011, when panchayat elections took place after three decades, five sarpanchs have been killed. (ANI)
