Srinagar, Apr. 27: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, attacked the National Conference (NC) saying that it was using boycott calls for its own benefits.
Addressing a news conference in Srinagar on Sunday Sayeed said NC’s presence on political front in the state had become a permanent threat to peace and stability.
“You yourself have witnessed that how boycott was selectively imposed in Anantnag parliamentary constituency. Giving credence to the apprehensions, NC wanted to use the call for its benefits as it had done in Srinagar in last elections,” said Sayeed.
Many people stayed away from voting on Thursday in the Anantnag constituency of Kashmir, after a string of attacks on village elders. Police said the attacks were the work of militants determined to derail the poll.
The constituency was one of six in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sayeed added Kashmir will face grave consequences if the NC is allowed to disrupt the democratic institutions and processes, the way it did in 1987, following which the state for over two decades, till now is facing a worst ever political turmoil
“NC-Congress coalition has not learnt any lessons and for securing victory in elections they are still practising old tactics that have devastated the state for two and a half decades,” Sayeed added.
Meanwhile, Sayeed also mentioned despite all violent machinations, NC failed to restrain people’s yearning for change in South Kashmir and the results would establish this fact. (ANI)
